Mustad has begun the biggest re-vamp of its Australian treble range in living memory and two of the stars of the new range carry Mustad’s unique Ultra Point feature.Mustad’s Ultra Point results in an extremely durable chemically sharpened needle point — maintaining sticky sharpness, but far less likely to curl over or snap at the tip. When applied to trebles, that’s a great advantage. Optimum sharpness coupled with greater durability means less treble-changing.The Mustad Ultra Point 36300NPBLN is a super short shank treble in a round bend design. It is a strong hook (rated 1X strong), but still fine enough to give great hookups and not upset a lure’s action. It is finished in black nickel and ranges in size from 3/0 to 1/0, 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8. That makes it suitable for everything from barra and bluewater down to bream and bass. The other new Ultra Point treble is the Mustad 36329NPBLN, and as well as Ultra Point, it has something you don’t find very often in treble hooks — a forged bend. That gives a lot of strength without extra wire diameter. This treble is rated 3X strong and suitable for a wide range of lure fishing from barra downwards. The black nickel finish enhances penetration and size range is 3/0 to 1/0, 1, 2 and 4. Available from good fishing tackle stores.
