Combining Simrad’s traditional pulse radar technology with the 4G broadband radar systems, Simrad Halo™ Radar uses Pulse Compression technology to deliver a mix of close and long range detection, precise target definition and low clutter.
Solid state technology means minimal warmup time and maximum ocean-going reliability, while compliance with upcoming Low Emission standards makes Halo safe to run in anchorages and marinas.
The culmination of ten years’ work, HALO Radar combines the advantages of Simrad Broadband Radar™ and traditional pulse radar systems to provide target detection as close as six metres – well within pulse radar’s short-range “blind spot” – while offering long-range performance up to 72 nautical miles.
Key Features
5 Modes with Auto Harbour/Offshore Selection Custom, Harbour, Offshore, Weather, and BIRD modes tune Halo Radar’s advanced signal processing to help ensure the targets you’re interested in can be seen vividly – even in the toughest environmental conditions. Sportfishing enthusiasts will find HALO Radar invaluable as a bird-finder, able to pinpoint even small flocks from miles away and track their position to right off the bow in search of the most productive fishing spots.
InstantOn™ performance Unlike traditional pulse radar, HALO Radar does not rely on a high-powered magnetron or vacuum tube to transmit – this means InstantOn™ performance from standby and just 16-25 seconds from powered-off, compared to a 2-3 minute warm-up time for traditional pulse radar. A rugged, helical gear-train construction coupled with HALO Radar’s brushless motor ensures quiet and reliable operation at any speed. In addition, solid-state technology means compliance with the latest low emission and radiation standards: HALO Radar is radiation-safe to people within the swing circle of the array on all models, and safe to run in anchorages and marinas.
Suitable for boats of all sizes HALO Radar requires just 40 Watts average in no wind, and 150 Watts at maximum wind velocity. In standby mode, power consumption is only 6.5 Watts, versus 10 to 15 Watts for traditional pulse radar. With such low power consumption, support for 12- or 24-volt systems, and availability in 3-, 4- and 6-foot open arrays, HALO Radar is ideal for vessels of all sizes – including smaller powerboats where open array radar may not have been an option previously.
Beam Sharpening with Target Separation Control Go compact without compromising on resolution. Beam Sharpening grants HALO-3 similar resolution to a 4-foot array, and HALO-4 similar to a 6-foot array. HALO-6 provides an unprecedented resolution of 0.8 degrees, similar to an 8-foot array.
Advanced Signal Processing for Clearer Images Halo uses Digital Sidelobe Reduction and Directional Sea Clutter Rejection to enhance the detection and discrimination of smaller targets, while Sector Blanking eliminates unwanted reflections for less clutter on screen.
High Speed Mode for Rapid Position Updates Halo provides high speed operation up to 48RPM (mode and range dependent). Simrad quality construction and Halo’s brushless motor with advanced helical geartrain design ensure exceptionally quiet operation, especially at high speed.
Dual Range with NSS & NSO evo2 Multifunction Displays Monitor two distance ranges simultaneously with independent displays, controls, and MARPA tracking. Watch both nearby collision hazards and faraway weather cells, with Halo’s unique combination of short- and long-range performance.
MARPA Target Tracking with 10 Targets per Range* Track CPA/TCPA for up to 10 user-selected radar targets per range (up to 20 total in dual-range mode), when using Halo Radar with a compatible multifunction display, high-speed heading sensor, and GPS receiver.
Compatibilty with Simrad NSS evo2 and NSO evo2 Exclusively compatible with Simrad NSS evo2 and NSO evo2 multifunction display systems, HALO Radar connects via Ethernet, with a bulkhead-mounted interface box below deck. The radar’s sleek open-array antenna sits atop a uniquely curved pedestal with integrated soft-glow, blue-LED accent lighting – a stylish complement to any powerboat.
