WARLOCK COD LOLLY

The aptly-named Warlock Cod Lolly lure is an exciting new 120mm diving, hard-body that comes in two running depths: 20+ and 10+.

Talk about a mixed bag: upon opening the oversized box that carries my cod lures, it looks more like a dog’s breakfast than a well-stocked cod arsenal. Lures of all shapes and sizes are tangled to the point where freeing just one can be a risky business; but the colorful, hook-clad clump is lifted and shaken until the lure of choice drops free.

This trip was early in the season, and a couple of new cod offerings were still package-clad, so some of the dangers associated with lure selection were put on hold. The same can’t be said for the aggressive nature of the local Murray cod, which smashed these new lures from pillar to post over the course of our visit. Amongst the fish, there was a real showstopper that slammed a bright pink lure on the troll. What a great way to welcome a new lure!

Rigged with 2/0 BKK 6066 4X trebles, the Cod Lollies have a great hook-up rate.

The Warlock Cod Lolly lure is a 120mm diving hard body that comes in two running depths. The 20+ model is designed for deeper work, where larger fish often hide during full light or when the temperature is high. The 10+ model is the perfect choice for casting

around weed beds or shallow timber during low-light periods. The bib and body shape combination offers great aerodynamics, with both models casting perfectly time and again.

The swimming action of these lures features a tail-down wobble that rides the timber well, bumping over snags time and again and tempting strikes. Both models are excellent for trolling and, with the two depth variations, you have most sections of water covered. The Cod Lollies come in 10 different colour schemes, each very striking, and we have yet to find one that the cod don’t like.

An afterthought on many lures is that these come pre-rigged with a set of 2/0 BKK 6066 4X trebles, so there is no need for upgrades. The hook-up rate on these lures is second to none, as the trebles ride just outside the lure body. If you fish for Murray cod or any other large predatory fish, then you should consider putting a few of these in your kit.

By the time this comes to print, there will be a smaller 80mm model available that comes rigged with size 4 BKK 6066 4X trebles. This lure will be suited to all manner of native fish, not least of all large golden perch during the spring run. These lures are exclusive and only available at BCF.
